British intelligence: the Russian Federation did not achieve the goals set by Putin in the Kharkiv region

The Russian forces of occupation failed to accomplish Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin's objective of establishing a "buffer zone" in the northern part of the Kharkiv region. According to a report by "European Truth," this information is outlined in the intelligence assessment provided by the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom on May 26th. The British intelligence report highlights that despite the ongoing advancement of the Russian Federation's occupation army towards Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region, the city remains firmly under the control of Ukrainian forces, successfully repelling the majority of Russian assaults.

Russian occupiers captured the village of Bugruvatka near Vovchansk and are trying to establish physical control over the nearby Siverskyi Donets river crossing, thereby threatening the flank and rear of the Ukrainian forces defending Vovchansk.

Also, Russian troops continue to carry out attacks in the direction of the village of Liptsi, but, according to the Ukrainian General Staff, as of the evening of May 22, 2024, they have not made significant progress.

Intelligence recalls that on May 17, Putin announced that Russian troops should create a security "buffer zone" in the Kharkiv region. But so far they have not succeeded, the department added.

"The front in the north of Kharkiv Oblast has probably stabilized, and Russian territorial control is fragmented and not unified. Russia's progress in this direction will be limited during the next week, as the initial momentum of Russian forces has been restrained by Ukrainian resistance," the review says.

Earlier, the mass media reported on information provided by Western intelligence agencies, indicating that Ukraine may face significant territorial losses by the end of the year.

Amidst the Russian occupation forces' offensive in the Kharkiv region, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg emphasized the necessity for some allies to reconsider the limitations on the deployment of weapons to Ukraine for targeting objectives within Russian territory.
