Ukraine's armed forces have managed to obtain "tens of thousands" of drones from China to aid in repelling Vladimir Putin's forces, despite the close alliance between Moscow and Beijing. According to reports, Volodymyr Zelensky's forces have heavily relied on unmanned aircraft throughout the conflict, with a decrease in procurement from the US due to cost and ineffectiveness against Russian defenses, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.
The Ukrainian military has managed to acquire drone components from China, as the partnership between China and Russia has strengthened since the invasion started in February 2022.
According to the report, Ukrainian forces are losing approximately 10,000 drones per month, with American commercial drones costing significantly more than Chinese models. Georgii Dubynskyi, the deputy minister of the agency overseeing Ukraine's drone program, mentioned that while there is interest in testing more American models, cost-effective solutions are being sought after.
According to reports, Russian defenses have reportedly been able to easily detect US-supplied drones, despite their high price tag. Additionally, many American-made drones have been criticized for being glitchy and difficult to repair. These drones have failed to justify their cost, especially when more affordable Chinese alternatives have proven to be effective.
Adam Bry, a representative from Skydio, a prominent Silicon Valley company that has provided Ukraine with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), expressed that the overall perception in Ukraine regarding the effectiveness of US drones is not as favorable compared to other systems.
In response to this, a spokesperson from the US Department of Defense informed Newsweek that they are fully cognizant of the difficulties encountered by Ukrainian partners when utilizing drones in the current conflict scenario, especially considering the advanced electronic warfare capabilities possessed by Russia.
They further stated that they are collaborating extensively with their industry partners and counterparts in Ukraine to tackle these challenges and guarantee the utmost effectiveness, reliability, and resilience of the drones being supplied.
The Department of Defense works closely with the defense industry to discover, create, and implement technologies that are capable of meeting the challenging requirements of contemporary combat and electronic warfare settings, as stated.

Low-cost drones have become a crucial aspect of the ongoing war, which has now entered its third year following Russia's complete invasion of its neighboring country. Along the extensive 600-mile front line, where combat has mostly reached a stalemate, both factions utilize these affordable drones to neutralize costly military equipment.
The urban areas of Ukraine have been bombarded by a significant number of Shahed drones, which are designed by Iran and used by the Kremlin's forces. On the other hand, Kyiv has established a small yet rapidly expanding defense industry. Within this industry, drones, including lethal unmanned sea vessels, have proven to be highly effective.
